What is a HypnoNidra Sound Bath session?

HypnoNidra Sound Bath is a unique session that blends together the healing modalities of Hypnosis, Yoga Nidra and Crystal Singing Bowls. It is a safe and relaxing form of mediation and trance (hypnosis) that is practiced lying down. During the session you will find yourself entering into deep state of relaxation and emerging with a sense of calm and wellbeing.

What are the benefits?

The benefits include deep relaxation, self awareness, calming the nervous system, feelings of wellbeing, enhanced creativity and improved sleep.

Read my blog on the benefits of HypnoNidra and yoga nidra to find out more.

Is this class a physical exercise?

No, my class is similar to guided meditation and it doesn’t include any physical asanas (yoga poses).

What do I need to do in the class?

No need to do anything apart from lie down, relax and allow your mind to flow with the session

How long is the class?

The session lasts around 50 minutes although you are welcome to stay the full hour as you slowly unwind after it ends.

Do I need to bring anything?

Depending on the location, you may need to bring a yoga mat to lie on and I also recommend bringing anything for added comfort, such as cushions/ pillows and/ or blankets (if it’s not too hot).

What happens during the session?

I start with a gentle relaxation technique, allowing you to centre yourself and begin to focus internally.  This is followed by a spoken guided meditation with a theme that promotes, calmness, wellbeing and self compassion.  The guided meditation allows your mind to move into a deeper level where you are resting in the borderline state between waking and sleeping (the trance state).  Towards the latter part of the session I use Crystal Singing Bowls to allow your mind to free flow in trance.  The Crystal Singing Bowls create beautiful vibrations and frequencies that have the capacity to shift energy, clear blockages, and restore the mind, body, and spirit to a balanced state.

How will I feel?

Everyone experiences these sessions differently, some people may feel sensations of weightlessness, some report seeing colours and others sense the physical vibrations through their bodies from the Crystal Singing Bowls.  However you experience this session, rest assured that it will be a deeply relaxing practice.

What if I fall asleep or my mind wanders?

It’s natural for your mind to wander whilst in hypnosis, just as it does when you are daydreaming.  This means you may be aware of what I say or your mind may drift in and out.  Either way is fine.  If you do find yourself falling asleep, that’s fine too, your body probably needs it!

Common myths about hypnosis

Myth: Hypnosis is a form of mind control

Fact: You are completely in control.  No one can be hypnotised if they don’t want to be and you have the ability to take yourself out of trance if you choose, simply by opening your eyes.

Myth: The hypnotic state is very unusual

Fact: Trance is actually quite ordinary and it’s very similar to daydreaming.  We go in to trance at least twice a day when as we fall asleep and wake up.  Other examples are when we doing exercise or driving we may find our mind switching off as we go into a light hypnotic state of flow.

Myth: Some people can’t be hypnotised

Fact: Everyone has the ability to be hypnotised because it is a natural, normal state that each of us enter at least twice a day as we fall asleep and wake.  Having said this, you can’t be hypnotised if you don’t want to be.

Myth: I won’t remember anything when I’m in trace

Fact: Everyone experiences hypnosis differently, for some it’s a state of focused attention and for others it’s more like day dreaming with your attention drifting and wandering.  Others find they don’t pay conscious attention at all.  However you find it, that’s fine, it’s simply a matter or your own personal experience.

Myth: A person can get stuck in trance

Fact: This can’t happen.  Hypnosis is a natural state that we enter and exit during the course of a day.  If you need to bring yourself out of hypnosis you can just open your eyes
